Ah Wanaka, the small town nestled in the mountains, surrounded by lakes, and home to one very famous Wanaka Tree.
When I first really began to take New Zealand landscape photography seriously about 7 years ago there was one place I wanted to visit, and this was the place. I had seen a photo of the famous Wanaka Tree on Instagram and that incredible scene of a small Willow Tree growing in a lake surrounded by mountains just had to be seen with my own eyes. Wanaka landscapes were on my bucketlist and I just had to get there to experience them.
Little did I know how famous the Wanaka Tree would become, and how it would help my career and put me on the map. It was a photo of the Wanaka tree during one winter in 2015 that catapulted my social media profile and became viral all over the world. The Lone Wanaka Tree forced me to take my landscape photography from a hobby to a career. I have a lot to be grateful for because of this beautiful little tree and the Wanaka landscapes that have since helped my career go further.
Many people love it, many people hate it, but I LOVE the Wanaka tree and to date it is still the most popular New Zealand landscape image I sell.
