The Bay of Plenty .. my home .. and where my heart is. I grew up here with the beach at my back doorstep. The ocean is part of my soul and it is where I have spent many moments in solitude appreciating nature. Before landscape photography, it was surfing that was my number one love, and although I don't do it as often, I still love to get out the board in summer time. The Bay of Plenty is known for it's beautiful beaches (Mount Maunganui and Papamoa to name a couple) and you are never far from the water when you're here. A Mount Maunganui sunset is one of my favourite things to do when I am at home here in the Bay of Plenty so I might be a little biased in saying so, but ask anyone and they will agree. I grew up in the Bay of Plenty and have lived at Papamoa Beach for more than 20 years now. A Papamoa Beach sunrise is one of the best ways to start the day.
The Bay of Plenty is situated on the north east coast of the North Island of New Zealand and is home to incredible beaches, land and waterways.
Home to Mauao (Mount Maunganui), Papamoa Hills, Tauranga Marina, Kaiate Falls, McLarens Falls, Omanawa Falls, and many other beautiful New Zealand Landscape Photography spots, there are many many opportunities to get the camera out while you relax in this chilled out town surrounded by the sea.
One of the most popular Mount Maunganui Photography spots is the Mauao Mount Maunganui summit sunrise. The walking track to the top of Mauao is approximately 30 minutes, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's easy, it's fairly steep the whole way up and you will definitely get a sweat on. There are also some beautiful Mount Maunganui basetrack photography opportunities which is a much easier walk at around 45 minutes circling the bottom of Mauao.
Other Mount Maunganui photography locations include a Pilot Bay sunset, Mount Main Beach Sunset or Sunrise, anywhere along the Mount beach for sunrise or sunset, Leisure Island, and further down Papamoa Beach you will get a great view of the beach with Mount Maunganui in the distance.
Some other beautiful Bay of Plenty photography locations include Kaiate Falls in Welcome Bay, a set of falls with an easy walking track, Papamoa Hills Regional Park photography, McLarens Falls Park during the Autumn months is particularly stunning, Waihi Beach sunrise, the Kaimai Lookout sunset gives a stunning view over the Waikato.
Although I have travelled all over the country in search of New Zealand photography I always enjoy coming home to the Bay of Plenty and Mount Maunganui to both relax and also get my camera out when the sunrise or sunset really puts on a show.
