WAIRARAPA & WELLINGTON
LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Both the Wairarapa and Wellington regions sit below the Hawkes Bay on the east coast of the North Island. Castle Point is a popular coastal town in the summer time and also is the home to New Zealand's tallest lighthouse and a magnet for photographers to come and explore New Zealand landscape photography opportunities. Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand and is well known for its arts, culture and vibrant city life. The Wairarapa and Wellington regions are home to some of the best New Zealand landscape photography locations I can think of. Rolling hills, lush green forests, and expansive farmlands, the diverse range of landscapes is perfect for photographers. Although I still have a lot to explore in this region, I feel lucky to have visited a few of the Wairarapa photography spots during my time as a landscape photographer.
The Wairarapa Region is home to the incredible Castle Point Beach which I've been lucky enough to visit on a few occasions. This historic lighthouse at Castle Point Beach is set on a rocky outcropping and provides beautiful panoramic views over the surrounding coastline. If you're keen to hike then the Castle Rock track is a must do. This hill climbs up 128m above sea level and the view is spectacular. Walk south along the lagoon edge and follow the track up through coastal grassland to meet the boundary track at the saddle.

Some Wairarapa Region and Wellington Region photography locations I would love to visit include the Putangirua Pinnacles, Cape Palliser Lighthouse, Remutaka Forest Park, the South Coast of Wellington, and Island Bay.
